Updated June 2026

South Wilts Grammar School for Girls has Maths, English and Verbal Reasoning in their exam. They use the GL (Granada Learning) exam board.

Bishop Wordsworth's School also uses the GL exam board. Their test will consist of two papers: a Maths & Non-Verbal Reasoning test, and a Verbal Skills test.

I teach Non-Verbal Reasoning in Holiday Workshops.

During term time I teach mixed classes of boys and girls Maths, English and Verbal Reasoning.

In Salisbury, only the boys' grammar school (Bishop Wordsworth's School) has a Non-Verbal Reasoning element in the 11+ exam.

I teach more hours of Non-Verbal Reasoning than any other single subject. It is fun to teach and quick to learn.

If you can’t come to the holiday workshops, do use the 60 free Non-Verbal Reasoning videos we have on YouTube.

When Non-Verbal Reasoning was introduced some years ago, I thought long and hard about splitting the girls and boys for classes. Then I looked at what I could remove from the English, Maths and Verbal Reasoning to make room for the Non-Verbal Reasoning in the boys’ classes. I couldn’t, in all conscience, leave the boys less well prepared than the girls. so I teach Non-Verbal Reasoning in holiday workshops, which cost about half the price per hour. It was the fairest system I could think of.

Some girls need to learn Non-Verbal Reasoning for exams elsewhere. They are welcome to attend the workshops.

2. Subscribe to my YouTube Channel (over 850 videos) (link to our YouTube home page).

3. Listen to audiobooks together and discuss the possible outcomes (try the "Just William" series).

4. Read - anything. It doesn't have to be classic novels. The Guinness Book of Records, the back of cereal packets, Jeremy Clarkson will do just fine.

6. Practise following instructions e.g. cooking and craft activities.

7. Make things out of paper and card. Undo boxes for the cardboard recycling - 3D shapes constantly cause trouble.

8. Find our “What to do in year 4” button.

About half the pupils on my books in any year don’t do weekly classes. They mix and match the different things we offer to suit their own needs. They might do The Scholar’s Course booklets and videos and come in for mock exams and holiday workshops. Anxious children like to do the pre-recorded classes and nervous mock exams before they venture into live classes. Younger children need Mrs Sock. Children for whom English is a second language tend to prefer the videos because they can re-listen to them.

Don't forget the Daily Maths Sheet.

This free resource is changed daily (except Sunday). The answers are provided.
